Aural Sculptors - The Stranglers Live 1976 to the Present

Welcome to Aural Sculptors, a blog aimed at bringing the music of The Stranglers to as wide an audience as possible. Whilst all of the various members of the band that have passed through the ranks since 1974 are accomplished studio musicians, it is on stage where the band have for me had their biggest impact.

As a collector of their live recordings for many years I want to share some of the better quality material with other fans. By selecting the higher quality recordings I hope to present The Stranglers in the best possible light for the benefit of those less familiar with their material than the hardcore fan.

Needless to say, this site will steer well clear of any officially released material. As well as live gigs, I will post demos, radio interviews and anything else that I feel may be of interest.

In addition, occasionally I will post material by other bands, related or otherwise, that mean a lot to me.

Your comments and/or contributions are most welcome. Please email me at adrianandrews@myyahoo.com.

999 'Trouble' Single Reviewed Sounds 26th January 1980

A far from positive review from the pages of Sounds.

"Trouble" (Polydor).
Last time I reviewed a 999 single I claimed that they'd ripped off The Clash for their name. I was wrong: I apologise. But I'm not going to apologise for slating their last single or pointing out that this is as original, shocking and attractive as the 'saucy French playing cards' on the cover.

  1. I thank you for previous posts showing some shared family tree with the Clash via Pablo on drums. Zounds for Sounds, eh? It's not an exactly damning review except for faint praise. He may have meant slagging rather than slating. I hope you don't mind comments or that I've been lurking for well over a year and saying nothing. I have been blogging for a decade and have very few comments, almost no dialog with anyone but lots of views.

  2. No hanks indeed for the feedback. I like the bloggers that remain don't get so much so its always appreciated. I may do some more of these band focused days... gotta break up the Stranglers stuff somehow!
