Hugh And Hazel At Quite A Party!

 

As reported in the pages of the 15th August 1981 issue of Record Mirror, Hugh Cornwell and Hazel O'Conner were spotted among the guests of a Chrysalis hosted party at the Sanctuary in London's Covent Garden to mark the launch of Debbie Harry's first solo LP. Take a look, that's quite some guest list!

Hugh Cornwell Interview On Susy Radio 103.4

A big thanks goes to MeAnIe for this one. Using my finely honed powers of deduction I figure that Susy (as in the name of the radio station) is derived from Sussex and Surrey, the station covering the Gatwick and Reigate area, some 20 minutes from my parents place. It is rather strange then that this recording reached me via Australia!

Here Hugh talks briefly about the co-headlining tour with Hazel O'Connor, ahead of last week's gig in Brighton.

John Cooper Clarke Now Added To The Hugh 'N' Hazel London Gig

The great John Copper Clarke has now been added to Hugh's Electric Ballroom gig on 4th December. As for Hugh and Hazel, is this an opportunity for a duet with a difference. The Peters and Lee on punk rock springs to mind!

Hazel O'Connor Royal Court Theatre 24th September 1981

Ok, so there's some very clear Stranglers connections with this one, from Hazel's cover of 'Hanging Around' to her vocal support at the Rainbow gig in early April 1980, when her then beau, Hugh Cornwell was incarcerated just down the road in H.M.P. Pentonville.

I saw Hazel once in 1989 or '90 at Brunel University. At that time she explained that this was her third visit to the university campus, the first being to see the Pistols gig in December 1977 and the second when she was promoting 'Breaking Glass'.

This then is a reasonably early set, which does feature some strong songs.
