Aural Sculptors - The Stranglers Live 1976 to the Present

Welcome to Aural Sculptors, a blog aimed at bringing the music of The Stranglers to as wide an audience as possible. Whilst all of the various members of the band that have passed through the ranks since 1974 are accomplished studio musicians, it is on stage where the band have for me had their biggest impact.

As a collector of their live recordings for many years I want to share some of the better quality material with other fans. By selecting the higher quality recordings I hope to present The Stranglers in the best possible light for the benefit of those less familiar with their material than the hardcore fan.

Needless to say, this site will steer well clear of any officially released material. As well as live gigs, I will post demos, radio interviews and anything else that I feel may be of interest.

In addition, occasionally I will post material by other bands, related or otherwise, that mean a lot to me.

Your comments and/or contributions are most welcome. Please email me at adrianandrews@myyahoo.com.

The Professionals Jimmy's Music Club New Orleans 12th May 1982

I don't know for sure what people's opinions are on The Professionals. Personally, I really like the couple of albums that they did (here I am talking about the band in the early 1980's). What did they brand this music? Power Pop? Rich Kids got lumped in as well I think. It wasn't Sex Pistols for sure, although 'Silly Thing' is the best 'non-Sex Pistols' song that Sex Pistols did!

The Professionals bootlegs that I have heard to date have all been pretty rough sounding. This one from New Orleans on their 1982 US tour is a cut above those that I have heard, quality wise.

I saw the band (without Jones) a few times and still thought they were pretty good. I was at their last gig at the 100 Club a couple of years ago, after which came the unexpected announcement that they had made the decision to call it a day. At that time we were not to know that a big Pistols reunion was just around the corner and was the reason for the parting of the ways.

Many thanks again to mark for sharing this one with me (and you). Cheers!
