Here's a version of The Epileptics/Flux of Pink Indians 'Tube Disaster' by the UK Subs. Back in 2003, the Subs made this available as a free download on their site. Several years ago, I posted it but my link is dead and I can no longer find a link from the Subs. So hear it is again. An excellent version of a punk classic.

Flux Of Pink Indians The Action Space Theatre London 19th September 1980

A bit of self indulgence on this one I'm afraid. Scouring through some old music press yesterday I came across this ad. Flux of Pink Indians having recently evolved from The Epileptics were playing just down the road from my house. This band were the only musical claim for the town (discounting Shakatak of course).

Here's another early set recorded a month or so later than the Stortford date.

The Epileptics, Triad, Bishops Stortford November 1979

A bit of local history in this post. As mentioned in a previous post, my present home town, Bishops Stortford, a semi-rural market town, has something of a rich musical heritage (if you gloss over Shakatak). In the 60's the town, by virtue of the Rhodes Centre, was one of the first gig stopping off points as the bands of the day headed out of London heading north. Later, in the '70's punk bands such as the Banshees, Adam and the Antz and Motorhead passed through, playing Triad. The same venue was to become a focal point for the Harlow/Bishops Stortford based label and scene that went by the name of Stortbeat. Stortford's Epileptics were part of that collective of local bands, but they also bridged over to the emerging Anarcho scene of the late '70s/early '80s (the daddy of the anarcho bands, Crass, were just down the road in Epping).

So here is a little taste of that scene (for Dave Sez - who was in attendance on the day).

Here's a track that was available for free download from the Subs website many moons ago.

Tube Disaster - The UK Subs

The track goes back many years. The track as originally recorded by Bishops Stortford band, The Epileptics, appeared on 'The Last Bus To Debden' EP. It was a live recording from a gig at the town's Triad Centre.

I think that the Subs did a great job on it, but as so often is the case with covers, the original is superior.
