Aural Sculptors - The Stranglers Live 1976 to the Present

Welcome to Aural Sculptors, a blog aimed at bringing the music of The Stranglers to as wide an audience as possible. Whilst all of the various members of the band that have passed through the ranks since 1974 are accomplished studio musicians, it is on stage where the band have for me had their biggest impact.

As a collector of their live recordings for many years I want to share some of the better quality material with other fans. By selecting the higher quality recordings I hope to present The Stranglers in the best possible light for the benefit of those less familiar with their material than the hardcore fan.

Needless to say, this site will steer well clear of any officially released material. As well as live gigs, I will post demos, radio interviews and anything else that I feel may be of interest.

In addition, occasionally I will post material by other bands, related or otherwise, that mean a lot to me.

Your comments and/or contributions are most welcome. Please email me at adrianandrews@myyahoo.com.

Site Participation?

In a quiet moment, just checking up on some stats I looked at the downloads generated for certain posts.

The recent JJ and Jet interview from BBC Radio 6 has been downloaded 779 times and generated....... 0 comments.

This particular interview was posted for the benefit of those that missed it in the UK and those outside of the UK that either were unaware of the broadcast or could not access it online.

I have stated before that I do not want to moan, but for so many people to actively download something without a single acknowledgement is rather trying!

I know those that are appreciative and supportive of the site and it's much appreciated. This message goes out to those who download everything and contribute nothing. I think that you know who you are. Please don't be selfish.

  1. I feel ashamed and, despite having at least contributed once rather than never (irony), agree totally that we have been far from fair in our taking rather than giving.

Personally, I first heard Peaches in the bath, on a little portable radio, when I was 11 and thought it was bollocks if truth be known (it weas better then the Carpenters mind). I heard Grip on the radio soon after and thought I must get this album. Am I the only one to listen first time around to Rattus and go "fuck me" this is great but surely that novelty track is not them.

Anyway, fist gig 78 in Manchester, engaged to first wife at gig and decking unappreciative 11 and 8 year olds in Strangs shirts (see Giants parody on burning up times photos). OCD on this lot and Sparks (thought I was the only one who combined these two until Barbican in Nov - bloke next to me had Weekendinblack bag).

Ok brief history that misses loads - but I have got loads of gigs on different computers but have no idea how to "upload". Happy to do so if I get a heads up on my best way to do it. Doubt if I have things others have not made available but have 20 years of boots that I will happily share with a little advice.

  2. I would be more than happy to help you out Rattus, also happy to help with artwork, tape conversions, whatever is needed.
As for Adriana hard work.....been a fan for a long time, although based on the d/l's to comments ratio, I can understand his disappointment on occasions.

  5. This is a problem for lots of music bloggers and I have no obvious solution. What Pete says is true that it's harder to leave a comment on Blogger but even that doesn't explain the stone silence of the vast majority visitors.
