Aural Sculptors - The Stranglers Live 1976 to the Present

Welcome to Aural Sculptors, a blog aimed at bringing the music of The Stranglers to as wide an audience as possible. Whilst all of the various members of the band that have passed through the ranks since 1974 are accomplished studio musicians, it is on stage where the band have for me had their biggest impact.

As a collector of their live recordings for many years I want to share some of the better quality material with other fans. By selecting the higher quality recordings I hope to present The Stranglers in the best possible light for the benefit of those less familiar with their material than the hardcore fan.

Needless to say, this site will steer well clear of any officially released material. As well as live gigs, I will post demos, radio interviews and anything else that I feel may be of interest.

In addition, occasionally I will post material by other bands, related or otherwise, that mean a lot to me.

Your comments and/or contributions are most welcome. Please email me at adrianandrews@myyahoo.com.

Acne Rabble (Sex Pistols) Interviewed After Appearing At The Rock Garden Middlesbrough 26th August 1977

'Britain's Premiere Mystery Group' in an interview with BBC Radio Cleveland after their S.P.O.T.S. (Sex Pistols On Tour Secretly) gig at the Rock Garden in Middlesbrough on 26th August 1977.

Asked to comment on their contemporaries in the UK punk scene, The Stranglers come off badly with Hugh being described as Clive Dunn and Jet's age being given as 52... as confirmed in the background by Paul Cook!

Typical snotty stuff.

  1. I got wind of the fact that the band were playing & phoned the venue several days in advance. They confirmed that a new band called The Spots were playing so I organised a mini bus from Newcastle for a bunch of Punk mates. The venue assured me that there was no need for tickets, it would just be cash on the door. We duly arrived at the venue on the Friday night to be told it had sold out! We adjourned to the pub next door for a couple of swifties. The pub side door was right opposite a fire exit for the Rock Garden & just before show time the door sprang open & a bunch of bouncers began ushering dozens of us in after negotiating suitable recompense. I think we paid about £10 per head when the ticket price was probably about £1 max. An unforgettable night.
