Aural Sculptors - The Stranglers Live 1976 to the Present

Welcome to Aural Sculptors, a blog aimed at bringing the music of The Stranglers to as wide an audience as possible. Whilst all of the various members of the band that have passed through the ranks since 1974 are accomplished studio musicians, it is on stage where the band have for me had their biggest impact.

As a collector of their live recordings for many years I want to share some of the better quality material with other fans. By selecting the higher quality recordings I hope to present The Stranglers in the best possible light for the benefit of those less familiar with their material than the hardcore fan.

Needless to say, this site will steer well clear of any officially released material. As well as live gigs, I will post demos, radio interviews and anything else that I feel may be of interest.

In addition, occasionally I will post material by other bands, related or otherwise, that mean a lot to me.

Your comments and/or contributions are most welcome. Please email me at adrianandrews@myyahoo.com.

Gig Review - The Stranglers At Clouds Edinburgh 7th February 1978 (Record Mirror 18th February 1978)

  1. Great stuff here - never seen that Clouds review - two things for discussion. A) I wonder if that picture off JJ IS from Feb 78 or from the 77 tour? I get the impression that JJ had updated his gig attire as we moved into '78....that looks very '77. B) the gig review - is that JJ as stone picture added in or was it in the original review? Reason being, the review would have come out two months before the B&W lp and it's artwork. I'm thinking you added it, but it looks plausible! Cheers, Mark T.

pS I have the other Edinburgh Clouds review if you'd like it. The one that suggests at an early version of Duchess potentially being in the set...(under the title of 'Little Choirboys"...

    1. Duh! going backwards I have just chanced upon the Feb 25th RM article with the aforementioned "Little Choirboys"....which I think is really interesting that it was around in the B&W days (interesting as it is quite quite different to the rest of the Raven lp in style and is more '77/78) Anyway, just wanted to correct myself/acknowledge your knowledge and say thanks again.
