JJ on BBC's 'The One Show' 3rd February 2012

Here's a short feature on the song 'No More Heroes' that was broadcast last night on UK TV's BBC1 early evening magazine programme 'The One Show'. It has been suggested that this was a missed opportunity and rather than focussing on a track that is well over 30 years old, the opportunity would have been better used to plug the new album. That may be so, but in the bands defence, that is not how this particular strand of the show works (other similar clips have focussed on the Pistols last UK gigs in Huddersfield and Jerry Dammers on writing 'Nelson Mandela'). Nevertheless, such an appearance on prime time TV on the UKs biggest channel can only benefit the band.

A Student Room - Brunel University 1992

Looking through some old photos at the weekend, I came across two that made me smile. I took a couple of pictures of my 4th year hall of residence room that I had in my time at Brunel in Uxbridge. This would have been in 1992. I was still seeing the band at this point, but less frequently as my interest was seriously on the wane.

I must have tidied up before the picture, I know it's still a mess, but I'm embarrassingly untidy!!

The Raven was painted on an old sheet. For the Bear Cage painting I may have run out of inspiration or more likely paint! Willian L. Shirer's 'Rise and Fall of the Third Reich' is on the book shelf, which remains to this day the best book that I have ever read.

More Stranglers, The Jam, the mighty Kraftwerk from the Man Machine period and a gig poster from an early gig by the reformed X-Ray Spex (1990?). From the albums on the bed, it's clear that the Madchester/baggie scene of the day passed me by completely!

These days I still have some gig posters on the wall, but now they are framed... a concession to middle age.

Ruts DC - Hammersmith Odeon & John Peel Session

Just received this in a trade. A bit of background research into this brief gem would indicate that this has been available on other blogs for an age, but I had somehow missed it and that being the case so may you have. But this is too good to miss. Also considering that earlier links may now be redundant I think I have sufficient excuse to post it again.

From what I can gather, this very early Ruts DC set was recorded when they opened for The Skids at the Hammersmith Odeon on 21st October 1980. The quality is so good, I would say that it is a radio broadcast (perhaps part of a Skids 'In Concert' set?) and it unsurprisingly featues a majority of Ruts tracks, with the single 'Different View' being the only new song (this was only 3 months after Malcolm's death).

I'm sure you'll agree with me that this is top notch stuff. The question that I have is whether this is the full set or a radio edit?

In order to bulk this up to a respectable CD length, I have added the band's only Peel session from February of the following year.
