Iron Maiden Summer Festival Milwaukee 26th June 1981

Hee hee! Well if The Human League challenged some (although on that front the feedback was positive I have to say), opinions on this one may be something else again. Why Iron Maiden you may ask, well...  in the simplest terms, I cannot think of many bands beginning with I (well I can but they are not in my collection) and I don't have any live material by Infa Riot, so choices are limited.

Nevertheless, Iron Maiden. Were they not one of the 'metal' bands, in the company of Motorhead, Thin Lizzy and AC/DC that punks could admit to listening to? In 1980, being East End lads, Garry Bushell was interviewing them side by side with the Cockney Rejects. Iron Maiden early doors were a guitar solo or two away from the punks anyway. Singer Paul Di'Anno certainly looked as if he would be equally at home in the UK Subs as frontman in one of the leading lights of the so called New Wave of British Heavy Metal (or N.W.O.B.H.M.).

So here you go, no apologies.... it wasn't me who devised the alphabet!

  1. Thanks for the letter I! Great band (the first three albums are classics), loved the 'punky' Di Anno period. And Phantom of the Opera is Maidens Down in the Sewer ;-)
