From “Sometimes” to “Never Look Back” the width and breath of their material was exceptional.
The Stranglers V were born with Hugh Cornwell’s departure. Paul Roberts and John Ellis’s input gave a new aural sculpture and they retained the “Something Better Change” mantra.
The Stranglers IV (part II) emerged after a trumped-up session guitarist convinced the three original members, JJ Burnel, Dave Greenfield and Jet Black, that Roberts and Ellis were superfluous. In the following years Jet Black retired from touring and the band made just ONE studio album! (They really should have called it a day then)
Since 2006, 14 years ago, (now 2020) The Stranglers have failed to produce any new material. Instead they’ve toured consistently, with a set list full of classics drawn from the first albums plus the obligatory “Golden Brown”
Playing the same old songs night after night to aging “Die-hard fans”, led to complacency and recycling motions, without emotions caused stagnation. The Stranglers plagiarised themselves becoming their own cover band!
It’s all come too late in my opinion; this decision should have been made 15 years ago.
Ironically, “Something Didn’t Change” for The Stranglers.
Good luck to Hugh Cornwell, Jean Jacques Burnel, Dave Greenfield, Jet Black, Paul Roberts and John Ellis in their future endeavours.

P.S.: On the plus side Baz Warne will be unemployed!
Paul McGuinnessnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-333056491858240180.post-42190526260591761792020-01-30T12:12:34.361+00:002020-01-30T12:12:34.361+00:00So they are no longer doing full tours, so what......So they are no longer doing full tours, so what...? the world won't end...!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-333056491858240180.post-33135923406505719152020-01-27T22:54:54.290+00:002020-01-27T22:54:54.290+00:00I wouldn't hold your breath!I wouldn't hold your breath!Musky03https://www.blogger.com/profile/14139009587198270829noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-333056491858240180.post-1903509072890782572020-01-27T22:06:46.819+00:002020-01-27T22:06:46.819+00:00they should put everything behind them and have Hu...they should put everything behind them and have Hugh back on vocals...even for just 2 or 3 shows.sewer rathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16993247063384298245noreply@blogger.com
